Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
These young scholars at an urban magnet school with an environmental theme will develop their knowledge of reading, writing and social studies in my classroom. They are passionate individuals, who like to voice their opinions around current social and political issues.
These soon-to-be revolutionaries are striving in a situation where most would fail.
Our school is 100% free lunch and many of the students come from homes with limited resources. Additionally, our school is in a sanctuary city, which regularly welcomes new learners into our classes.
My Project
These materials will provide the students with a home away from home. With flexible seating, students will have more ownership within the classroom. More ownership will help foster a positive learning environment.
Everyone loves to read comfortably, so why shouldn't we provide this for our students.
Adding this to my classroom will help students enjoy reading.
Having a rug in the classroom also goes towards creating a positive learning environment because students will see a more colorful environment.
All of these new materials will provide students with a home away from home. This new positive and safe environment will contribute to students feeling comfortable at school and having them attend classes more frequently. Some Title I students do not only come to school to learn but to also to be loved. Showing them positivity and giving them flexibility in the classroom will also lead to less behavioral issues, which in turn leads to less suspensions.
The middle school grades at our school have a high rate of referrals and behavioral suspensions. Reaching these students any way possible will help with their future success before it's too late. This positive learning environment will help disengaged learners focus in the classroom.
