My Students
My students are wonderful and curious 4 and 5 year old Pre-K students. There are 17 students in my class, and 48 Pre-K students in our small, rural, PreK-8th grade school. All 48 students will be able to use the purchased items. My students have wonderful imaginations, and lots of energy. It is a challenge for me to provide lots of manipulatives, games, and learning experiences for them with the limited resources of a small school.
Pre-K students learn best through play, and, when I provide stimulating, hands on, and interesting toys and manipulatives for them to use in learning centers.
Our school is a small rural one, and my students sometimes come to school with little to no experience in a classroom setting. During the pandemic, their outside learning and social experiences were even more limited, because of the threat of the virus. I want to provide all the students in my class with varied and exciting ways to learn.
My Project
Pre-K students need variety and novelty to catch and keep their attention. The light tablets and manipulatives that go with them, along with new costumes and a washer/dryer playset will help my classroom be a play based class. Pretend play and playing with objects that have numbers, words, and letters on them, promote prereading skills. The children in my class will be better prepared for Kindergarten. The pandemic has caused many children to be behind in social and academic skills and has required them to spend a little too much time looking at screens instead of socializing.
The items I've asked for are not only eye catching and interesting to this age group, but sturdy enough to last through several years of play.
I will be able to reinforce the language skills that I am introducing in a way that feels like a game and keeps their attention. They will also be using their imagination and developing social skills they may be missing.
