Proud Pandas + the Right Tools = A Successful Year!
My students need reading, writing and math materials, including pocket charts, digital timers and mini clocks, in order to manipulate and at the same time enhance their learning during independent work time.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever walked by a window at a department store and have seen something you needed or wanted but could not afford? Have you sighed sadly and said to yourself "maybe next year". For the past 3 years I have sighed sadly, hoping that one of these days I will obtain the materials I long to have for my students.
I work at a small primary Center in California.
This primary center services students from Pre-K to 2nd grade. The community where we are located is a low income community. Most of the students come from homes with hard working parents who are always trying to make ends meet. The school is composed of about 300 students and 96% of these students are Hispanic. Because we are such a small school we always go under the radar and do not benefit from certain monies that larger schools receive, which may fund programs and/or materials that may benefit students. Therefore, we try to do as many fund-raising events throughout the year in order to also make ends meet. Although, we do get the support from the community, the monies collected from these events are always limited and only help us cover certain things such as field trips, leaving many of us, teachers, picking up the tab while trying to do the best with what we have or trying to fund certain materials out of our own pockets.
My Project
The materials I have requested are materials that will help maximize my teaching and my students learning during independent work time, writing and math. Having these math manipulatives at hand will provide my students the opportunity to do some hands on learning such as sorting and classifying attributes of the solid shapes and learning about time and fact families. The timers, caddy, pocket chart and writing folders will also help them to better manage their time, materials and their classroom work while I am working with other students during independent work time. For example, the digital timers will help students track their time at the computer and switch with other students without interrupting me. Also, their writing folder will help them keep their writing pieces in a safe place until I am ready to work with them. The sturdy writing journals will keep all of their writing throughout the year without the fear of running out of paper to soon or their journals falling apart.
I really need you to help me fund this project.
I consider myself a resourceful teacher, who tries to do the best for her students. I am not wasteful and everything that I have requested will be put to good use. Funding this project will help me save time, which is an important aspect in the the classroom. Every minute in my classroom counts and having all these things ready will help my students and I start the year well prepared and ready to learn.
