Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

For some students, music is the reason for wanting to excel in school. I teach music for grades kindergarten through 5th at a school with high poverty.

Our students are very interested in learning to play instruments, such as piano, that they would never get a chance to play at home. A lot of the instruments that our school already has are broken and almost unusable (children have gotten splinters from our rhythm sticks).

We are in need of new class sets of rhythm sticks and egg shakers (our K-2 students use these on a regular basis). We also need an electric keyboard for our third through fifth grade students who are very eager to learn to play piano. The piano/vocal books are great ways to get students excited about learning the instrument and singing along with new, fun and popular songs (not like some of the traditional songs in our music text that very quickly lose the attention of our students).

Thank you for taking the time to go through my proposal. With your help, our students will be able to succeed through music in a way they never thought possible. The pride on their faces when they are performing their favorite song with all their heart is priceless.
