This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is a reflection of the world. While we study world history in my classroom, we take care of the world around us. We look to the events and politics of the day, asking ourselves why such events happen and what solutions we can come up with to solve them. History isn't just in the past.
In our new setting, our school has a dedicated vision to changing the world around us by helping to preserve it.
Our students have committed themselves to this vision by enrolling in our school. They come from all parts of the county and do so of their own volition. At times, it's difficult as they will have to rely on public transportation. They will rise in the morning, early as 4 a.m., in order to make it school on time. Why we find our students do this is the mission behind our school: conservation. We wish to take care of nature in all of its forms and beauty. We want to preserve the world we live in so that future generations can enjoy it. In order to have this happen, we have to change the way that people view the world itself, not to mention our students.
My Project
In order to preserve the world we live in, we need to document what is found within it. Thanks to partnerships through the school system and others, we are able to access areas not typically available to normal students. The area we wish to focus on contains numerous species of threatened and endangered species. We are seeking new cameras so that we can continue document to the various species found within this area. Our students, thanks to the generosity of previous Donors Choose projects, have been to go into the field and document these threatened species. In order to continue the mission set forth, we need additional cameras so that we are able to include more students in the project.
They will be the historians of the present and future.
My goal is to make history come alive for them, so that they may understand the purpose of history. It's not just to reflect on the past, but to ensure that the present doesn't need to become the past, but rather be the future as well. By taking this on themselves, they can direct the path they would like history to take.
