My Students
As the technology teacher for our school community, I am not in the classroom daily. Instead, I work with the classroom teachers to create large scale projects for the students that incorporate technology of all types.
Located in Philadelphia, our school is a small but powerful force for positive change.
Students in our school are encouraged to explore and create in a variety of outlets, including a woodshop. Our school is in its second year and we are slowly adding to our materials and supplies to further help our students succeed.
My Project
My students need eye wash stations and extra eye wash bottles to remain safe during projects. Eye wash stations are an important safety feature in any lab environment. As the technology teacher, I oversee a Makerspace and materials lab (woodshop) where students are exposed to dust particles and some chemicals. We want to have single use eye washes available for student emergencies so that we know the wash is sterile and ready to use in an emergency.
Safety is important in any classroom but it becomes an even bigger issue when students are working with materials such as wood and chemicals.
These eye wash stations and replacement bottles will be placed in our materials and science labs to make sure that students have access in an emergency. Currently, students need to go to the nurses office which can be far when a student is in distress.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
