My students need several consumable products, such as plastic cups and chart paper to develop models of Earth's spheres, graph the amount of fresh water on Earth, and present ways that communities protect the environment.

My Students
We like to think of our TK/K-5th grade school as producing well-rounded, whole children who make healthy choices for their minds, bodies, and spirits. We teach them to care about achieving academically, pushing their bodies to gain physical strength, flexibility, and stamina, and finding joy in the performing and fine arts.
My 5th grade students strive to thrive with challenges that enable them to collaborate, communicate, be creative and critical thinkers who can make a difference.
Our community is very stable with many families who have a long history in the area. Other families return after college with their own families to attend this well regarded elementary school. In fact, some of our teachers on staff were once students!
Because we are a high academic achieving school, we often do not qualify for the same grant and state funding that schools of lower socioeconomic status would. This does not mean, though, that we are any less worthy, nor do we necessarily have the funds to provide the students with the complete opportunities we would like.
My Project
Hands-on science is a non-negotiable for a 21st century learner on this planet, but hands-on science requires oodles of materials. Many times, those materials are consumed and exhausted when doing science.
Chart paper, plastic cups, paper plates, and aluminum foil seem mundane and common; however, these materials allow every 5th grader the opportunity to plan, design, build, test, and communicate information about the Earth's spheres, our planet's valuable resources, and how these resources are being protected.
As members of Earth's community, students must collaborate on what Mother Earth needs to sustain and how we can do our part to help her along.
