Protect the Tech

My students need 9 protective cases and 10 headphones for the iPad minis and iPad Airs that they just received due to a generous grant from LearnStorm.

My Students

My classes are eager to learn, and they will let nothing get in the way of their learning. They love to go online and go to their favorite sites for learning.

I teach kindergarten students in the morning and then I teach fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students in the afternoon.

We are a small community public elementary school in the San Francisco Bay Area. The student population is very diverse. 78% of the students are minorities, 55% are socioeconomically disadvantaged, 21.7% are English Learners, and 13.7% are students with disabilities. Our students, while they are frequent users of mobile technology, are in dire need of additional technology resources. They need supports that will allow teachers to increase student buy in and engagement.

My Project

My students recently received iPad mini 2's and iPad Airs due to the generosity of a LearnStorm 2016 Innovation Seed Grant. These iPads need to be protected from small hands that are sometimes clumsy. My kindergarten students will be walking around the room with the new iPad mini 2's and iPad Airs while making videos. The potential for disaster can be minimized if the devices are protected with cases. In the afternoon, these same devices will be used to help students who need more support with math skills. These students will be able to access Khan Academy to watch videos about math concepts, and they will be able to practice working math problems. They will need to have headphones in order to listen to the videos without disturbing other students.

The students need to be able to use the iPad mini 2's and iPad Airs that they just received without having to worry that they will break the new devices.

The devices cannot be easily replaced due to a lack of funds. A kindergarten student needs to stay focused on the task at hand without having to worry about breaking a precious tool that they just received. The older students will be able to use the devices as needed instead of waiting to use the computer lab.
