My Students
Imagine being unable to communicate with your family, friends, teachers, and peers! Help support my students with autism to learn to better communicate with the world around them through interactive math and reading lessons and iPAD covers to protect our current iPADS!
My class contains 7 students diagnosed with Autism.
I teach grades 2nd-5th. Our main goal is to increase their language skills so they can become more successful in an inclusion setting with their peers. By increasing language skills through hands-on experiences, they are most likely to retain the language skills taught to them. Help give a classroom of children with Autism a chance to produce communication skills through the interactive reading and math lessons and discover the awesome world of technology!
My Project
My students need a laptop and interactive literacy lessons to help them build vocabulary, reading and math skills! Teaching my students how to communicate effectively will help them to be able to engage in a higher form of learning. They will be able to interact with each other on a new level of learning by engaging in visual hands-on activities that teach Math and Reading skills. The literacy lessons will help in teaching the standards ELACC.3.L.5b, ELACC.3.RI.5, and ELACC.3.W.8, while reinforcing the language skills they already have and encouraging the learning of new skills. By building these foundation skills will allow my students with Autism to communicate effectively with their family, friends, teachers, and peers!
Literacy lessons and a working laptop will also support my students in performing Discrete Trial Teachings (DTT) and mastering their Individual Educational Goals.
DTTS are usually done in a one-on-one setting where the children are learning the skills necessary for communication and everyday experiences. The visually enhanced lessons will also provide a new way of positive reinforcement that will encourage our students with autism and will keep moving them forward!
