My Project

Our library was neglected and overlooked for many years and in desperate need of updating. The average age of our collection was 1984, and with your help, I have been working to bring our collection into the 21st century! The students have been super excited about the updates to the library and the collection and are flocking to this space during free periods and after school, but much of our collection is out of date and doesn't reflect current history or the experiences of the students in my school. (We had books that still had Jimmy Carter as President!) Our students are from all over Baltimore and many commute across the city in order to attend this school for one of the 20 vocational and technical career pathways that we offer. We are the largest high school in the city and serve a diverse student population including students from multiple linguistic, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds. Now that I have been able to provide more relevant and interesting texts to students, they are in high demand and our library is seeing more than a hundred students a day, every day.

These materials will help to display and extend the life of the amazing posters and signed art we have received from the fantastic artists and authors that have visited us or we have had the opportunity to go meet and make sure that the maximum number of students are able to enjoy them!

We have been lucky enough to have some author and artist visits and receive signed posters and other materials to brighten our space. The materials in this project will allow us to protect and display these materials in the library.
