My students need 3 Apple iBook batteries to make our laptops portable once again.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Dennison's classroom raised $582
This project is fully funded
I teach fifth grade in a high-need community. My students have a wide range of abilities and widely varying access to digital technology. Some students freely access the Internet, but others have no access outside of school.
We use computers in our classroom for many tasks, and are fortunate enough to have some laptop computers. This is wonderful, as they are flexible and can be moved to locations in the classroom, the hallway, or even the school library.
That flexibility has been lost because the batteries in the laptops are too old. They no longer hold a charge. They no longer are portable. They now have to be plugged in and on a specific table to be used. Our ability to flexibly use the laptops is limited by our aging batteries.
What we would like to do is replace the batteries in some of the laptops. We have six, but since the batteries are so expensive, you can help by funding three batteries.
Getting some of the laptops up and portable will really help students with the many tasks they use computers for. We use computers for writing, research projects, social studies, and more. Having the portability allows students to work in groups without bothering other students, and opens up space in the classroom.
You can make a difference in the experiences my students will have this year. My students will be able to work on editing their writing with partners or in small groups. They will be able to create products that will show their learning. They will have the opportunity to apply technology in ways that demonstrate their understanding. The batteries will empower their learning in many ways.
