This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." Every day my students come ready to learn and apply their new knowledge. Yet, attending a school with little resources makes it difficult to implement the most innovative and effective teaching strategies.
My students attend a historically low performing school and are in desperate need of some transformational changes in how they are educated.
The majority of the students I teach are faced daily with the struggles of poverty, violence, and low expectations. Despite this, my students are profoundly inquisitive. They are resilient and creative beyond belief. They are light-hearted, caring, and vocal. They process and interpret the world with a point of view that only a small portion of our society has the opportunity to witness. I come excited to work every day because there is so much potential and promise with these young minds.
My Project
My student will be able to take the initiative to research on their own, do lab simulations, watch learning videos and much more with the provided technology resources. The iPad mini allows me to enhance the learning videos in ways such as recording over preexisting videos to better clarify for my students. I will also use technology to promote team work and engagement using apps like Class Dojo which rewards and recognizes students for good behavior. Additionally, fun class buzzers will be used to increase engagement and promote urgency while playing games to review and practice material. Science journals are used in my classroom to help students feel like "real scientist" and with organization. Glue sticks, colored pencils, and scissors will help enhance their notebooks. Lastly, a library filled with books promoting curiosity, innovation, and learning will empower my students to see themselves in STEM professions.
All materials I receive will be used to effectively teach rigorous content, inspire them to dream big, and empower students to take ownership of their own life's trajectory.
The donations to this project will help our class receive the resources needed for my students to take an active role in their education.
