Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a special education teacher and I handle a self-contained class for 1st through 5th grade students with disabilities and impairment in a Title I school. My kids love to play with Legos. Unfortunately, I only have a small tub of Legos that only 2 students can play with at a time, so the kids had to wait for their turns to be able to play during their free play time. LEGO bricks are a great manipulative to work the fingers as children build and even pick up LEGO pieces. Children love the thrill of building and they can do this for hours, building up strong little muscles in their hands that will help them do other skills, such as learn to write, open containers, etc. Connecting the bricks with precision and detail strengthens fine motor skills and improves hand-eye coordination.
