About My Students
B. Middle is a Title I school filled with students who may not have all of their needs met on a daily basis, but our wonderful school does all it can to provide for our students - from a clothing closet to free breakfast and lunch as well as school supplies. Our students are excited about their futures and motivated by positive interactions and surroundings. When our expectations are high, our students rise to the challenge and blow us away with their dedication to success.
Our library mural will benefit our entire school community as it brightens the library learning environment. When a space is welcoming and pleasing to the eye, it puts students at ease and allows deeper learning to occur. Mural mania has already taken over our school and the library is very excited to be part of our school's student led transformation.
Bringing art to our students' lives brightens their day and encourages them to put forth their best effort. This mural will increase library visitors as they watch the mural come together over the days and weeks which will inevitably lead to increased check outs and reading. As our students work together to design the library mural, they will utilize communication skills, teamwork and planning strategies. They will also bring their academic skills into play as they discuss and write their reasoning for their specific ideas.
In Their Own Words
I think it would be cool to have murals in the library because kids and teachers would come down to see the murals and check out books. People would want to hang out more in the library. The library looks fine now, but I think it would be a lot better with murals of nature scenes and settings from books. It would make you feel like you're outside in nature, and that would be really good because there aren't any windows in the library.
I'll make the most of being a leader by respecting the ideas of others. Good leaders are ready to compromise and do what your group wants to do. Don't be selfish to others because it is not all about what one person wants to do. We have to create something that will work for everyone.
The library should have painting and murals over the bookshelves because when we look at it, we will think we're outside. The paintings will be relaxing and colorful. This solves two problems because it makes the library look better, and it will make everybody feel happier because it won't be so plain.
