My Project
His project goes beyond one day and one activity. In my primary “music lab”, students not only make music, but they start to read and write it as well. In a classroom without desks, using staff paper can get a little messy and overwhelming. We often use electronic sources to overcome this. At the end of the day, using basic staff paper with our hands and items can be the best thing for developing music literacy.
This project will give the students the tools to develop music literacy skills hands-on!
The students will be able to use the bingo chips on the boards to identify pitches, compare high and low, create melodies, and other activities.
Sometimes, they will use markers already on hand to draw rhythms and pitches on their white board staffs to share with the class. This could be done with group work, or individually with the number of boards that we will have. Having a large staff on the already present board will allow me to demonstrate to the students with ease.
It is vital for the youngest children to start to develop their language of music. We all know the concept of children are like sponges at that age. By giving these items to my classroom, students in grade kindergarten, first, second, and third will all get the opportunity to use their hands to manipulate, draw, create, and understand musical concepts!
