My Students

My students are a diverse group of learners. They have varying cultural and economic backgrounds. Also, they represent all types of learners: gifted and talented, English language learners, special education, etc. We are also a music magnet school so most of our students play instruments.

My students are curious about the world around them.

They love asking questions and then using technology to research their inquiries. My class this year really has a love of learning and it's exciting to watch.

My Project

Scholastic News is a great resource for students. We've used it in years past, but due to budget cuts, we are not able to pay for it this year.

Scholastic News provides students a chance to practice reading skills while learning about the world around them.

Students look forward to each new issue because they enjoy reading about current events. It's an added bonus that the articles created for third graders and students are able to read and understand the articles. We watch a daily student news program and Scholastic News provides us with a supplemental resource to build on topics they have already been exposed to.

The subscription also comes with a digital component for my English Language Learners to read along with on a computer or iPad.
