My Students
With the 2017-2018 school-year right around the corner, I have realized the role technology plays in the way we communicate, learn, grow, and even develop. Working in a low-income school, with over 85% of the students receiving free or reduced lunch in the East Village of Manhattan, New York, I have students from diverse backgrounds fill my classroom on a daily basis. As teachers, we know the importance of utilizing all the tools we have to make learning appropriate and attainable for all, no matter his or her specific learning needs. Additional technology in the classroom can enhance the learning experience for all learners!
With the addition of iPads in our learning community, not only will we be more productive but we will be improving the 21st century skills of my students!
My Project
Children born after the year 2004 are considered the iGeneration, meaning they grow up in a world with technology easily accessible. When technology is utilized in the academic setting, it goes beyond the concept of playing games to learn. Technology has the opportunity to maximize student potential and improve the way we as teachers teach, and help our students learn. As educators we are always looking for ways to making learning fun, while still measuring a specific goal. With the access to iPads in my classroom, student data can be tracked, and can provide immediate feedback on how to answer questions using different strategies. iPads can be incorporated into every subject, these devices will help during the research and revision process in writing, access Khan Academy when math concepts get tricky, and can be a center for students during small group work.
The opportunities are endless when it comes to properly integrating technology in the learning environment.
Let us not forget, being technologically literature is amongst the 21st century skills children need in order to become life long learners. We greatly appreciate any, and every donation!
