My Students
My students are highly diverse. They need to see their own cultures/birthplaces and those of other students in a positive light in order to see themselves positively and interact positively with others.
My students are highly diverse and live in an extremely high-poverty area.
The kids I serve are struggling with their own identity and acceptance of others. I want to teach them about not only geography, but about the world in general. My students cannot find our state on the map, let alone the countries where they or their parents were born.
My Project
These books are high-quality National Geographic books about different countries. Specifically, I chose books about countries my students are from. Mexico, Iraq, South Korea, and Kenya are only a few. I want my students to understand the place of their birth, their own culture, and the culture of others. I believe this will improve tolerance and acceptance in my school.
My students need to understand their place in the world.
They need the resources to investigate their own cultural identity and that of others. I want my students to know who they are and how they can make a difference in the world.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
