My Project
Hello family, friends, and community members. Last year I did a funding project with Donor's Choose to provide flexible seating for my classes. Several of you graciously donated to the cause, and the students enjoyed their pillows and yoga balls and rugs. Watching them use those things pointed out some other needs. Many students would just hold the pillows in their laps, and some would just stroke the textured pillows.
Watching them made me realize that even though many of my students have IEPs (Individualized Education Plans), I have never considered how meeting some of their physical needs could help meet some of their emotional and educational needs.
So, this year I am looking to make my classroom more accessible for my students who have physical and emotional learning needs, in addition to educational ones.
I am hoping to get sensory pillows for those students who need to touch things to help them calm down. Also, weighted stuffed animals and lap pads for those who respond to pressure therapy to help them calm down. I am also hoping to get teacher supplies that will me personalize learning for students who need "just that little bit extra". I hope you will consider helping.
