My Project
My students would like to start a student-led service activity designed to promote mental health and physical well-being among high school students in grades 9 through 12 in our local rural school community. Recognizing the importance of nutrition and community support in fostering a positive school environment, students will provide snacks to their peers during designated times throughout the school week. We have 4 lunch periods and sometimes the students prefer a quiet space in the library so we will have stations set up near the library door so that all students in the school can stop by to grab a quick snack and a quite space.
The project is aimed at creating a supportive community where students feel valued and cared for.
We will focus on awareness about the importance of mental health and physical well-being as we foster leadership and teamwork skills among our school community.
A group of student leaders will be formed to plan the initiative. They will be responsible for selecting a variety of snacks, organizing logistics, and promoting the event within the school. Snacks such as beef jerky, fruit snacks, candy, granola bars, yogurt, and trail mix will be provided during lunch hours in a designated area of the library. Students will set up a welcoming snack station where their peers can stop by and enjoy a treat.
Alongside the snacks, informational flyers or posters will be displayed, providing resources on mental health topics, self-care tips, and local support services. Students can also engage in brief conversations about mental health to foster openness and reduce stigma. After the event, participants will gather feedback from their peers on the initiative's impact. This can include surveys or informal discussions to understand how the activity affected their day and overall well-being.
