Promote Early Reading Skills in Preschool Scholars

My Students
My scholars love sharing and discussing, among themselves, their own “stories” as they “read” books at the carpet throughout the day. The more they are exposed to, the more they become cognitively aware about letters, letter sounds, and word formations that promote early reading skills.
My preschool scholars are curious, full of observation and wonder, and passionate about learning!
My Project
The books selected for the classroom library will encourage, promote, and foster curiosity and wonder and allow for continued exposure to quality print. The classroom library is located in the carpet area where we meet, learn, read-aloud and read independently!
Scholars are taught and encouraged to treat the books in our classroom library with love and care.
Every week or so, I rotate books in and out of the classroom library that is relevant to the curriculum focus for that month and/or week; the scholars are always excited when they notice new books on the shelves.
All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. Not only do these books reflect developmentally and age appropriate stories that are reflective of the curriculum theme, but, are also focused around their areas of interest and skills that may need additional support in strengthening. I have watched them over the course of the school year so far, be gravitated towards books just like these.
Students will be able to choose books during independent reading, which will help them continue to promote early learning and reading skills. With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to progress in learning and development, beyond early reading skills.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my scholars foster and encourage a love of books and reading. This project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
