This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have twenty-five kindergarten students who are eager to learn and work hard every day. This has translated into success for the students and the school as a whole. Our school has received an "A" consistently for the last several years and we have very high rates of success on state assessments. Our school was awarded the National Blue Ribbon award in 2011.
The majority of my students are eligible for free lunch and more than half of my class speaks English as a second language.
My kindergarten students need a lot of hands-on activities and visual support in order to learn new concepts.
My Project
My students should have the opportunity to play with large unit blocks with plenty of time to build and rebuild invented and familiar structures with the blocks.
By playing with blocks, children learn skills in problem solving, imagination, self expression, mathematics, science, continuity and permanence, creativity, self esteem, social and emotional growth, fine and gross motor skills all while acquiring knowledge about their surrounding environment and increasing their ability to interact with it.
There are so many benefits to having building blocks. Please help us get the unit building blocks and I promise to give my students plenty of time to build with them!
