My students needs a classroom set of the book Makes me Wanna Holler by Nathan McCall.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. R.'s classroom raised $792
This project is fully funded
I am a seventh and eight grade language arts teacher. The student population is 100% African-American. Almost all of our students qualify for free- or reduced-price lunches. This is a high-need community with limited resources.
Students are not motivated by the curriculum. The reading materials do not speak to their experience. It is difficult to get them interested in texts. They need practice reading for sustained periods of time. This is critical to building stamina. In order to do this they must begin practicing with a text that is interesting and engaging.
"Makes me Wanna Holler" is the inspirational story of an African-American male who went from being a prisoner to a writer for The Washington Post. It also offers a critical analysis of the reason why many young black males may see prison as a rite a passage. The author writes in sch a way that is relative and thought provoking for stents. This is the type of high-interest text that is needed in today's classroom. This book is guaranteed to engage, educate, and inspire.
Your donation will not only change a student's test score, it will change a young person's life.
