Projector Needed for Living Environment class in the Bronx
My students need a LCD projector in the classroom for interactive lessons and to practice PowerPoint presentation skills required to succeed in college.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I don't know about you, but I struggled very much in college. Coming from an inner city, public school, I did not receive the technologically advanced education my peers did. Students need to learn to be technologically savvy in order to succeed in college and the work force.
My students are high school kids who just recently immigrated to the states.
They are English Language Learners who are struggling to learn a new language as well as the content required to get a New York State Regents diploma. Many of them are living with relatives they did not know previously and face poverty everyday of their new lives. We have excellent attendance rates because our students want to be in school because it is their home away from home. It is a place where they can relate to other students and learn something new everyday.
My Project
A projector is a necessity in today's classrooms. A living environment(BIOLOGY) class without a projector is very difficult to teach. Biology is a visual subject where many times, multimedia speaks louder than words. With a projector, I can provide more interactive lessons while teaching my students to be fluent users of PowerPoint. They can create their own presentations. I can show them videos of actual life functions occurring in the world around us.
PowerPoint presentations are an essential part of being biology majors in college.
Without sufficient practice, my students will struggle to learn and do well in college. Lets not forget how well visuals grab students attention and how important visuals are for English Language Learners. Therefore, a projector is a necessity.
