My students need a state of the art projector to have clearer examples given to them for math problems.

My Students
When used by a master, technology can take learning from a dull drag through math problems to a exhilarating romp through a fun-filled math experience. My students are growing up with more and more technology, and they need to see their world reflected in their school!
My students are second graders from a low income background.
They are full of smiles, love, and an extreme passion for life. Despite the conditions of their life, (every student at my school receives a free breakfast and lunch) my students express nothing but optimism, hope, and caring for those around them. Unfortunately, they are struggling to meet second grade benchmarks in math.
As Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs would tell us, before my students need math, they need to see examples of caring adults in their lives. I have students who have told me about terrifying experiences in their neighborhoods that most of us wouldn't dream about. Your donation will make a difference in how my students view the world around them. They will see more kindness because you donated.
My Project
My school is all about daily structure and rigor. As such, we create packets for our students to work through for every class. I review concepts at the concrete level every day with place value blocks, but this doesn't always translate perfectly to the packet.
I have requested a projector so I can project examples for math problems for my students. A projector would give my students the crystal clear examples that they deserve.
In the most concrete form, this projector would connect the concepts created using place value blocks to the concepts of place value and regrouping (which my students are learning now).
Being their teacher, my students also become very tired of my voice. There are many educational videos that could be accessed online that would allow them to learn from a different source. Khan Academy is just one of these many sources. The ability to connect my students with the infinite resource of the Internet will serve as an immense boon for their learning.
In America today we are dealing with an immense gap in achievement.
This gap disproportionately affects children in low income areas. I think everyone in America nods their head at the statement: "The education gap is unfair," but we don't always know how to make the difference.
If you want to make a small difference in the education gap, which my students represent, you can give a little bit of your hard-earned money. It'll make the difference to my classroom, my students, and the country.
