My Students
This middle school is a cultural intersection of the ever-changing city of Indianapolis as well as new, beautiful populations of refugees.
The 6th, 7th & 8th graders that attend here are from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and are made up of multiple ethnicities and cultures; each of them maintains a vibrant spirit of independence, curiosity and global-mindedness.
These middle school students are growing into young members of society as risk-takers with insight, humor and knowledge. Their desire for information and experiences through literature will benefit them long after their middle school years come to an end.
My Project
We have chosen to read Born A Crime, by Trevor Noah as our new book for the ProjectLIT Community. Each Wednesday and Friday we will be reading it aloud with the group of students.
This year, our students are even more excited to be able to have access to critical literature where they see themselves represented and hear their stories told.
For the second year in a row our middle school has been participating in a nationwide book club and it continues to fuel our student's desire for reading as well as storytelling. This opportunity provides students the ability to reflect on their own lives as well as those lives of students alike and different.
