My students need less stimuli in their environment to be focused during speech activities. A projector, screen and 3 wireless headphones would help them remain on task.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students have few opportunities to use technology and are amazed with an iPad or a Mac computer. I use this motivation to enhance their learning. They are easily distracted as a result of their disabilities and need help staying focused.
Our school is a K-8th grade special needs school, with children who are classified as students with autism, cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome, muscular dystrophy and emotional disturbance.
Many present with additional challenges, such as hearing impairment, vision impairment, physical impairment and attention deficits. They come from low-income families in the South Bronx and have limited access to resources that would greatly enhance their learning. This is especially true when it comes to technology.
Despite the difficulties they face, they inspire us all with their hard work, their joy and their desire to become hard-working members of the community.
My Project
My students will read books on the projector and understand them more. I envision my students with attention deficits looking more at the visuals if they are laminated and in color.
Students with hearing impairment will be able to listen to music or a story on wireless headphones without background noise.
Picture symbols will be created to go along with stories for non-verbal students who would like to contribute by pointing to pictures to comment, while reading stories, or asking and answering questions. I see more focus and more smiles, which will tell me "Hey, I get this!"
Imagine a room with beautiful visuals related to literacy activities on a projector screen.
We will project books with large visuals while students listen to the story on their headsets.
The tennis balls will be placed on the bottom of our classroom chairs, to reduce the noise distraction of sliding chairs. Students with hearing impairments are particularly agitated by this sound in the environment. With fewer distractions, all of the students will absorb more of the lesson.
