My Students
There are over 600 sixth grade students in my school, and I have the privilege to be the proud teacher of 91 of them! Many of them come from bilingual households and receive free or reduced-price lunch. Each student comes into my classroom as a scared individual (for their first time in a middle school comprised of over 2,000 students) but leaves as a part of a family!
While in my room, they are "my kids," and I take the trust that their parents put in me very seriously!
A teacher is not only an educator; to me, a teacher is a provider, nurturer, nurse and lots of times—a mother figure to these children.
My Project
While in Math class, the students LOVE to share and present their work and answers to the class. I promote Mathematical Discourse within my room to not only allow students to compare and discuss how they solved a problem but to promote healthy and positive relationships.
In Math class, we do more than "just solve problems".
We work together to evaluate problems, analyze each other's work and identify any errors that are made. My kids really enjoy sharing their work, even if the answers are incorrect, we love to evaluate the work to "find the error". This strengthens the students' during Math because it helps them eliminate possible errors they could make in the future.
With a document camera, students will be able to display their actual work on the board, instead of having to waste time and rewrite it on the board each time.
