This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a self-contained 6th grade class in a high-need community where 79% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
Although one of our district's goals is to increase the use of technology in the classroom we have limited access to such technology. In many instances such technology would either help to engage students further in the lesson or provide concrete examples, yet my district severely lacks the resources.
I would like to purchase a document camera for my classroom to provide further opportunities to engage my students in all subject areas. A document camera will allow me to show detailed pictures illustrating various topics in social studies and science. For example, when we are studying ancient civilizations I can show quality pictures of the people and places we are covering. The visual presentation is especially important for my English Language Learners and special education students. In math the document camera will give my students concrete visuals of the concepts we are learning, which would be extremely useful when we study fractions and geometry. In day to day activities the document camera will increase my classroom's efficiency as I can model the game or activity we are completing in class with the exact materials my students will be using. This will ensure all students' awareness of how to complete the assignment thereby holding them to high expectations.
