My Students

Every student learns differently. My students especially. In our self-contained Physics class, our students will embark on experiential learning through a differentiated, interactive curriculum.

My students are high school freshman who get the bulk of their education in a self-contained setting.

They respond extremely well to learning that goes beyond pen-and-paper. In our lessons, we use movement, scientific thinking, and student-led discussion in order to teach the kind of higher-level thinking skills that they will need to be successful in college and career. Our school itself is in a high-poverty, crime-ridden area in the inner city. Over 90% of our students are eligible for the free-lunch program. Teachers, staff, and administrators are working to stretch every last penny of our budget in order to give our students the education they deserve.

My Project

A projector and cord will fundamentally alter the way that we are able to deliver instruction. We will be able to bring media directly into the classroom, and use a plethora of online physics resources that guide students through the stages of the scientific method. It will become easier to engage our students in games, to differentiate materials by projecting essential vocabulary and key points on the board, and to teach media literacy by allowing the students to project their own PowerPoint presentations in class.

The most important thing that a projector will do is truly equalize the self-contained experience for my students.

Having our lesson projected on the board when they enter the room will send students the message that this is a true high school classroom, completely equal in content, accessibility, and expectations as the general education classroom. If we set these expectations, I know that my students will meet them.
