Help me give my students a private, welcoming, and safe space to be able to self-regulate when they are having a rough day. We have a loft, but need supplies to fill it!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Hello and welcome! My name is Ms. C and I am currently a 1st-year social worker for CPS. I work with special education students at WDLES. My school is part of the supportive schools initiative where each classroom has a calm down corner in order to help students who may need a moment to themselves, especially if they are having a rough day. However, my students often need more assistance with self-regulation and have to be taken into the hallway or their aide needs to find an open room to meet with them somewhere in the building to ensure privacy. I am working with my admin to create an extension of a calm-down corner and create a calm-down classroom, or Zen Den, as we are calling it. We secured a space and a teacher has donated a loft but is in need of supplies to fill it! This is where DonorsChoose comes in. We need your help to create this safe and calming space for our students and fill it with resources that will help them self-regulate. We are asking for drapes for the loft, a rug, a bean bag chair, panels to dim the room, and sensory objects such as fidgets and stuffed animals to make the loft a calm and relaxing space.
