This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach English as a Second Language to struggling elementary school children. This year I am teaching fourth graders whose chances of becoming proficient readers wane with every day they are not supported. Focusing on school is sometimes difficult in their high-poverty, high crime neighborhood, but with the proper encouragement and tools they can thrive. They are good kids. They deserve everything more affluent children get, but inequities abound in our under-supplied school. Please help me level the playing field, or at least make it less unbalanced.
There is not a dime left in our budget for the kind of technology most schools have had for years. I picked the least expensive projector on the list and hope people will find it in their hearts to donate, even a few dollars, toward its purchase.
With the reading strategy, vocabulary and social studies Power Points and music videos I put together, our children's ability to comprehend and develop fluency will rocket upwards. When that happens, these children will be able to change their own lives for the better.
This is not just conjecture or wishful thinking: your support WILL help improve the lives of these students. With the use of this projector, I can help all of them become better readers. This will help them succeed in school where they are now struggling. About half of the students in our community drop out; those who can read are much more likely to stay in school - and thrive as adults. Thank you so much for your consideration!
