My Project
Hello again! My name is Ms. C and I am currently a 2nd-year social worker for CPS. I work with special education students at WDLES. I work with about 20 wonderful students, ages 5-12. As many of you know, COVID-19 has severely impacted students. Those in education have seen a deficit in skills related to self-management, self-awareness, and social skills. This is especially true for special education students, who already needed extra support prior to the pandemic and remote learning. My students often need more assistance with self-regulation than their peers, and require breaks outside of the classroom when they are overstimulated or in crisis. Within my office (a classroom), there is a closet that I have cleaned out with the help of so many on our team). I have finished painting it, installed a sequin wall, and have a starlight projector ready for use. However, sensory items are very expensive and I am in need of your help to complete the room. We need your assistance to create a sensory space for our students and fill it with resources that will help them self-regulate. We are asking for flexible seating items such as wobble stools, cube chairs, a peapod sensory chair, as well as furniture to complete the room such as a storage bench and a shelf. Please help us create a sensory safe haven for our students!
