Project Projector: A Science Teacher Needs Your Help!

My kids project their hopes and ambition onto their work every day, so the least I can do is project the wonders of science into their classroom. You can help me provide a look outside of the sometimes harsh view of Washington, DC, and into the human cell, a volcano, or into the depths of outer space with the help of an Epson projector.
I teach 7th Grade Life Science, and 6th Grade Earth Science for a school that is certainly unique. My school was founded on the idea that every student deserves a quality education and every kid deserves a second chance. With that in mind, we cater to our sometimes troubled neighborhood, but especially to the kids who have been expelled from public schools, or have gotten into legal trouble so that going back to their original school would be impossible.
With the hardships that happen on the streets, I want to make my classroom as engaging and stimulating as possible. Unfortunately, my students are faced every day with "show and tell" but without the show. We are constantly talking about subjects that should be captivating and stimulating, but often fall flat through verbal description. Our textbooks are at a reading level much higher than 90% of the kids in our class, so it's usually just them, myself, and an old chalkboard. I can explain the digestive system, but it would be amazing to show an interactive model where my students can see food travel through the body.
A projector would allow me to show them the wonders that science has to offer. Using the resources that are available freely online, I can show them images of exploding stars, models of the bones of the body, and even virtual frog dissection! It would be used daily to provide interaction into every lesson, not to mention help with behavior management and attention. Additionally, it would help reduce the carbon footprint of my classroom by reducing the need for hundreds of copies every month.
I think what it comes down to is that my kids are so focused on their lives that they rarely get the chance to be amazed by something. Offering them the chance to see perspectives outside of their own will be a great science lesson, but it can also be a life lesson as well.
We've all felt the wonder of experiencing space, nature, or the human body as something beyond ourselves. Now help me give that to my students.
