My classroom consists of students who are in first, second, third, and fourth grades. It is a self-contained, low-incidence special education room. The students are diverse learners who have moderate to severe disabilities that include autism, Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, and speech and language impairments. My students come from all over the city of Chicago, making the class rich with diversity and culture.
No matter the challenging situations and difficulties they face, my students continue to come to school happy and eager to learn; they are amazing!
We are a Chicago public school and our district continues to face financial difficulties. Because of this, the school lacks funding to appropriately support our classroom and students. With a little help from Donors Choose, we can get tools to support, enhance, and facilitate learning in a productive way!
My Project
My class consists of diverse learners with a large variety of needs. Each student in my classroom has an individualized curriculum for all subjects. The majority of their work are leveled units for each subject. All of this needs to be printed, because they are interactive worksheets.
I am requesting a color printer.
Color printed material is needed for a variety of reasons. Some of the objectives involve color identification, making color print a necessity. Additionally, some of my students communicate non-verbally. They are working on picture identification. Color print enhances the pictures and gives the students a realistic view of different vocabulary.
Color printing is not readily available at my school, however it is fundamental in making my curriculum meaningful for each one of my students. My current printer has stopped working, so I am having to use outside shops to print my work in color. If a need arises throughout the school day requiring color print, I am unable to fulfill this need until the following day. Having a color printer at hand allows for uninterrupted instruction and curriculum to support each individual's needs. Thank you so very much in advance!
