Project Our Problems - So Students Can Learn to Solve Them!!

My students need a LCD projector.

I am a high school librarian. My job is to help teachers teach and help students learn. If a teacher needs technology to deliver an effective lesson, I want to be able to say, "We've got that. Let me check it out for you. Want me to help you set it up?" If students need information, I want to be able to direct them to current, attractive print materials or websites that fulfill their information needs.

We have several new science and math teachers this year that have come to the library asking for projectors to use in their classrooms. They come in thinking they'll be able to show their students computer presentations and visual demonstrations. You should see the looks on their faces when we show them the crusty old overheads we have to offer. They have to totally reevaluate their approach to teaching to accommodate 25-year-old technology. Right now we only have one LCD projector to circulate and 25 science and math teachers who would love to use one.

We need more LCD projectors! I have talked with students who say that they would be more engaged in their lessons if they could see demonstrations and other visuals rather than writing on a blackboard or following along on an overhead. We would like to get SmartBoards later, but LCD projectors would be a great start! Every classroom at our local community college has SmartBoards and projectors, so at least adding projectors to our classrooms would get our students closer to what their college experience will be like. Also, increasing the impact of our science and math curriculum by giving teachers more access to technology will create students that are more interested in these fields, more likely to be engaged in classroom activities, and ultimately more likely to be successful in these classes and to pursue higher education through college experiences in science and math.
