Our middle school library serves more than seven hundred students. Our student population is highly inquisitive, energetic, and motivated to direct their own inquiry-based learning through the exploration of library resources. Our school has an incredible group of students from a richly diverse range of backgrounds. Unfortunately, high poverty is part of the daily experience for most of these learners.
Our wonderful students deserve to have every advantage of access to new books in which they can see themselves and look into other perspectives through books that feature characters different from them.
This year, we are focusing on closing the achievement gap and creating a school full of confident, successful students.
My Project
The students have voted! They really like paper books they can physically hold in their hands to read! Having an entire class set will be a great way to have enough books for either a class read or a book club pick. Students of all reading levels can be together reading the same book. Our students love learning new things and they also enjoy building a community together. We want to encourage new friendships and new perspectives. Students will increase their vocabulary and that will help prepare them for the next grade level.
