My Project

Our school's motto is that every student matters, and every moment counts. We strive to give every single one of our students a meaningful, engaging, and rigorous education every day. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and have very different life experiences. Every single student strives for excellence and is empathetic to one another.

The most important thing for a student is to feel represented and included in the classroom narrative.

The best way for them to feel this way is to see themselves in the texts that we are reading in class.

Incorporating diverse characters is crucial to providing our students not only with a meaningful education, but allowing them to hear from a variety of populations, and allow them to become global citizens.

Teaching students in a diverse school community is a true privilege. We want to ensure that all of our students can see themselves in literature. It is proven that when kids can relate and connect to novels they are in turn more invested in their learning. We want every student to be able to have the ability to have access to diverse novels that represent many backgrounds and cultures. Since we are a global magnet school, teaching students about other cultures allows them to form empathy and understanding. Which, in turn, makes them better global citizens.

The novels chosen will be read and discussed at monthly meetings to increase global views, and help hone in on the passions for reading and learning.
