Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Language Arts in a third grade bilingual classroom to 46 students who are learning English as a second language. The majority of my students live below the poverty level and help from home is limited. My students' parents cannot afford to buy them computers. We have four computers in my classroom that we are utilizing to facilitate our learning. Unfortunately, though, the computers can only be utilized by individual students or by students in groups of two.
Often, during Reading class, the students are confronted with words that they don't know. For example, if a bobsled is mentioned in a story that we are reading and the students don't know what it is, I can go to the computer to show them a picture of it. The problem is that it is very difficult to take the whole class over to one computer to show them what I want them to see.
There are many strategies that I plan to teach my students in order to facilitate their computer use. I would like to use the computer to teach my students how to use PowerPoint for class presentations, the use of Microsoft Word to create documents, the use of Microsoft Publisher to create banners and posters, and the use of Microsoft Excel to create charts and graphs. I would also like to teach my students how to explore the Internet so that they may have additional sources of information for their projects.
All of this could be easily facilitated if I had an LCD projector in my classroom. I could utilize it to project whatever is on the computer screen to the classroom wall for all to see! The use of an LCD projector in my classroom could save time and facilitate the learning for all of my students!
