Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 2nd grade and my students are diverse from low economic homes. I currently teach a busy group of 20 second grade students. The majority of my children are far below grade level. These children come to school every day with very diverse needs. As their teacher and caregiver, it is my goal to ensure that my students are the most successful that they can be. In my room, we constantly look towards to future by considering ourselves the Penn State Class of 2033. Every little bit that you fund, a child gets closer to that goal.
My Project
This month we have been studying famous African Americans during Black History Month. My students are absolutely LOVING biographies. I would like to keep the momentum going and celebrate Women's History month with my students in March.
It is so important for children to see themselves within the books that they are reading.
I want to inspire my young readers, especially the females, to believe in themselves and see that they can be anything that they want in this world.
This project contains books and supplies to help us create a different project about a new woman in history (or HERstory) each day. The poster board will be used to display our new learning in the hallway and the classroom each day. Students will complete a short exit ticket and write a few facts that they learned about our woman of the day that will be posted on these posters. Using the various post cards, my kiddos will write letters to women that have positively impacted their life. The books of course will be used for learning about amazing women who have made our world the way that it is today! I can't wait to inspire young girls to believe in themselves and their dreams!
