Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At our school, we have the vision that students will soar as lifelong leaders in a diverse and global society. Our mission is to increase achievement by focusing on students' academic, social, and emotional growth through rigorous instruction, while fostering a collaborative learning community to ensure all students unlock their limitless potential.
Our school is small and our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and the stakes are high.
In our efforts to support our vision and mission, we have lowered class sizes, increased our support staff, and have adopted Capturing Kids Hearts, Restorative Practices, and a social emotional learning curriculum called Move This World.
My Project
This project will help boost self esteem and pride in our fifth graders. In the past, at graduation our students have not had the opportunity to wear a cap and gown.
Wearing a cap and gown at graduation from elementary school helps students to envision what it would be like to graduate from higher levels of learning.
Students who wear a cap and gown in fifth grade may be encouraged to attend universities and colleges later on in life. It's important for our students, especially in this socioeconomic level to be able to see themselves succeeding in life in the future.
