Project Emotional Self-Regulation

Help me give my students a social emotional curriculum (A Little Spot) and structure that can be easily implemented and used in the classroom and in real-life interactions. Students cannot learn if they are preoccupied with emotions/hurt.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The social-emotional curriculum and books will be directly used with students in my therapy/counseling sessions and in my work with students and teachers in the classroom. I will practice building skills with bibliotherapy with books, and the activities and games help students apply their learning and practice using those skills.

A lot of the time, educators take for granted that students are receiving the attention and focus around regulating their emotions, but that is just not the case, and many students require assistance in learning basic social-emotional skills.

The fidgets and sensory toys are tools that I will teach students how to use to help regulate their attention and focus so they can practice being effective learners.

The other materials on my list will help students feel comfortable in my office space and understand that it is a safe space to share vulnerable feelings and thoughts that they may not have the space to share elsewhere. Students need to understand they are safe and supported before they are able to relax and learn. Having the harsh lights covered and a comfortable space to engage in will maximize the work we do together.

Sharing the tools and skills in my cart with teachers will ensure that students are practicing and utilizing skills outside of our sessions together and are integrated in their real-world experiences.
