Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Welcome to our Miracle in the Bronx. Our school is located in the Bronx, NY in one of the poorest and most economically disadvantaged areas in NYC. Out students come from families experiencing rapid immigration, murder, drug use and all types of abuse. On paper our kids should follow in the footsteps of their community, however they are recreating it.
When we were expected to fail our school boasts some of the highest ELA and Math scores in the City , while changing the community with our core values.
Our core values of integrity, perseverance, optimism, willingness, empathy and respect allow our students to elicit a positive school community which is slowly changing our neighborhood.
Academically we are doing everything we can to help further our students however the budget can only stretch so far. As the physical education teacher in the building I am given a sliding budget of around $200 for over 350 students. With this funding I will be able to not only help improve their physical literacy but their physical health and wellness.
My Project
Physical Education isn't what it is perceived to be. In our school we take it personal. Our students work towards a full comprehensive knowledge set of health related fitness.
"A picture is worth a thousand words".
With this projector we will be able to pull examples from all around the world, help share world sports news and also have access to the latest multi media fitness programming. With access to this programming there is not limit to what are students can achieve from a physical and cognitive standpoint! We are starting our journey to the future and we hope you can help.
