My Students

I teach first graders at a S.T.E.M. magnet school in the mountains of New Mexico. The school is in the process of becoming better equipped to support the S.T.E.M. initiative that we have recently embraced. We imagine our school eventually having state of the art technology to assist them in their creative processes. Any of the projects or activities that we wish to do we fund ourselves or through grants, which are often difficult to get.

Our school requires new technology to create a STEM environment throughout the school to support our initiatives for our students.

We have amazing students who are enthusiastic about science and love the journey of learning. We have dedicated teachers willing to work hard to help students improve their technology skills. Getting tablets in the classroom would help my class begin the process of improving our project-based learning activities. Currently, I have one iPad and would love to have several more tablets to create a technology center to use in small groups.

My Project

Having more than one tablet in the classroom would allow the students to work in small groups during various times of the instructional day. They would be able to complete presentations using the technology and use various apps that support the STEM initiative in our school.

New Amazon Fire tablets would allow my students to move around the school and our unique mountain environment to collect research information and complete various project-based activities.

The increase of technology also would help the students connect with the community around our school by working with local communities during our project-based activities, as well as allow students to share their work with their families more simplistically.
