This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is centered on project-based learning, where students learn through hands-on experiences, teamwork, and produce authentic work. I want each of my students to grow as individuals and to go further than a year’s growth.

I am a second grade reading teacher.

I teach at a Title I school located in a low socioeconomic neighborhood. I have a total population of 50 students that make up my morning and afternoon classes. My classroom is comprised of Special Ed students, beginning and intermediate English language learners with language barriers, students speaking various dialects across the globe, gifted and below level academic status. All my students qualify for free or reduced priced lunch. Some of my students are unable to buy school supplies and may wear ill fitted school attire. The students' parents work hard to make sure they are successful. My school is amazing because our staff helps to motivate students in many ways, we provide an afterschool program, and classes to parents through our parent center, as well as bringing community involvement through various activities and celebrations.

My Project

My project request is for resources my students will use in rotations, and seating that will keep them actively moving while working independently at their desk. I will need six headphones for six iPads to expand my listening center. In expanding my listening center I will support students’ reading comprehension, phonics, vocabulary, and fluency. Other materials needed are twelve Hokki stools to increase movement, and school supplies, such as pencils that have to be constantly replenished. Using these resources will help my students meet and surpass their individual goals.

This project is to maintain a classroom centered on students navigating their own learning and work that is authentic.

It is my obligation to make sure my students get the best education afforded to them and that they become confident citizens. My goal is for my students to leave knowing that learning goes beyond the classroom and applies to everyday life.
