Project Based Learning in History through State-of-the-Art Software!
My students need a reliable Macbook laptop to utilize current graphic design, music mixing, and video editing software, that has excellent processing speed to efficiently project Keynotes, images, videos, and live streaming for visual learners.
I teach United States History to 168 lively ready to learn 8th grade 13-14 year old students. In addition I teach an Advisory period with 33 eager 7th grade 12-13 year old students. The personality of my classes is lively, energetic, and ready to learn. My students walk into class chatty with each other and myself, and are genuinely happy to be here. They encourage one another, are inquisitive and we have lively discussions often.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds.
25% of my students speak a different language at home. Students in my classes are Hispanic-American, multi-racial, Asian-American, African-American, European-American, and Pacific Islander.
We are a Title 1 school, where 51% of students receive free or reduced lunch.
The variety of needs of my students require lots of planning and differentiation on my part as their ability levels range greatly. My lessons depend on my in class technology daily to keep students engaged.
My Project
A new Macbook laptop would be a powerful student learning opportunity allowing me to bring technology into my daily teaching and projects.
Students would benefit EVERYDAY through visuals, video clips, photos, Keynote slide shows, live streaming current events, online learning such as Kahoot, Quizlet, and would be able to create using graphic design for projects throughout the year, as well as music mixing for our Record Co Project.
My classroom focus is on Learning by Doing. We do Project Based Learning (PBL) throughout the year. Students learn about our past by creating music and art. I incorporate projects in every chapter. Projects like the Record Co. Project where students create an album where they rewrite songs with history lyrics, and turn those songs into music videos. Students create campaign posters for the study of historical elections, or when they run for President during our Government Simulation where the rest of class becomes Congress or the Supreme Court. Having a computer with these capabilities and software to create would be a powerful learning opportunity.
