Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am both a homeroom and math teacher in Oakland, California. When my students arrive in the morning, the first activity in homeroom is often reading. The students in my math classes read whenever they finish early, which is not uncommon for quite a few of them. Since I am a new teacher, my classroom library consists predominantly of books that other teachers are not interested in. I have the leftover books. The students recognize that my books are subpar and are frequently disappointed by their selection.
I'm hoping to add some flavor and excitement to my classroom library with these graphic novels.
My students, like most eleven year olds, fancy books that have sequels and prequels. They love following the same great characters over a series of stories. The Bone Collection, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Baby-Sitters Club, Attack on Titan, The Witch Boy Trilogy, and Bird & Squirrel, plus more, will all be perfect for this.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
