Project 180 is a journaling and writing project that will support my students and build their individual creativity. At times I give them writing prompts and I see blank stares. Having visuals will help enhance the writing experience.
I teach about 50 fifth graders who come each and every day ready to learn.
High poverty has left most of them without the background knowledge we take for granted. With this project I hope to increase their imaginations. When I go on vacations I often bring in pictures to use for journaling. It is amazing to see how the students can put themselves in the picture. They have amazing imaginations and it shows in their writing when they have visuals.
My Project
The resources I requested will be used throughout the year to increase the imaginations of the students while they write in the classroom. The cameras will also give each student a living memory of their last year in elementary school. I have requested 4 digital cameras, 2 printers (including ink for the printers and 1 I already have in the classroom). I also requested a copy of an excellent writing resource called WriteSource. This will help the students organize their own writing. Finally, I requested 10 copies of a Skills book that goes along with the WriteSource resource. I will use this in centers to help students become better writers. The students will learn that their every day world has much potential for writing.
Project 180 will increase the moral of all students when it comes to writing.
Imagine saying to the student who hates writing, "Here's a camera, let's go take a picture and then you will have something to write about." Even my struggling students, given visuals, are willing to pick up the pencil and begin to write. You can help me make this happen. I hope you are willing to help. We all appreciate your help! Thanks in advance.
