Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching in a low-income/high-poverty school/community, I see how my students are faced with daily challenges. These challenges include poverty, poor health, and parents who may be unable to afford resources such as books, computers, or even family weekend activities that would create a positive learning experience for them.

My students love to read, create, and learn.

I teach a first-grade class formed by 11 girls and 10 boys whose parents may not have the financial resources or time available to provide them with the skills and material needed to prepare them for the careers of the future.

My Project

My first-grade students need 6 Botley Robot sets to learn programming/coding basics through play rather than screen time. Learning to code will help my first-grade students in many subjects, such as perseverance, logic as in sequencing as well as cause and effect, and problem-solving.

With Botley, my students will be encouraged to play or tinker with their creations so that they take risks and they can learn from their failures.

At the same time learning skills that they will be able to use for a future career in a world that has a shortage of skilled coders and programmers. Whatever tasks they work on while using Botley, my students will be improving their skills in other subjects as well as building their confidence and their creativity.
