This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Welcome to my 2nd-grade class! I am fortunate to teach a group of multilingual 8-9-year-old students that enter the classroom with smiles each day and have a curiosity for nature. These kids love playing outdoors and learning about nature.
Most of my students come from families that have experienced some hardship, whether that be homelessness, family separation or death in the family.
Regardless of their situation, school is a priority and so is bettering their life opportunities.
I know these children have dreams and passions. Anything we can do as a community to support their educational and life endeavors will only make our communities stronger.
My Project
The National Science Teacher Ass Area Conference doesn't come around very often to Washington state and this December, it's going to be in Seattle!
Currently, the STEM fields do not represent the diversity of our society.
This conference will help me help my diverse students become better prepared and confident when considering STEM fields.
This conference is 3 days of workshops with keynote speakers each day. I'll also be surrounded by opportunities to meet others who share the same urgency for teaching science to all students.
Please help me attend this conference to help me learn about the pathways to science for my students; help me build partnerships in my class; and help my students and me find the joy in learning--especially about science.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
